Students Protest at Delhi University Law Faculty Over Denial of Admit Cards for Exams

Tensions rose at Delhi University's Law Faculty when over 150 students were denied admit cards for upcoming exams due to insufficient attendance. This led to protests, with students disrupting an exam. Later, the Faculty of Law announced that these students could provisionally sit for the LLB term exams in May-June, pending an Enquiry Committee's decision. This decision was made under the Competent Authority's guidance.

Protests Erupt Over Admit Card Denial at DU

Protests and Delays at Examination Centre

The situation intensified late Monday night when some students allegedly broke into the examination department. By morning, they locked the exam centre, declaring that if they couldn't take the exam, no one would. Consequently, the 9:30 am exam was delayed by two hours. The university administration eventually intervened, broke the lock, and conducted the exam. Students without admit cards were not allowed to enter, according to sources.

ABVP's Allegations and Demands

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) criticised the denial of admit cards, claiming around 300 students were arbitrarily barred from exams just days before they were set to begin. In a statement, ABVP accused the Law Faculty administration of bias, highlighting that Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) president and NSUI leader Raunak Khatri received an admit card despite reportedly not meeting attendance requirements.

ABVP described this as a non-academic and biased attitude by the Dean of the Law Faculty, demanding an explanation and calling for the Dean's resignation. "Hundreds of students are upset due to this biased act," their statement added. ABVP members have been protesting since Monday night, accusing the administration of colluding with NSUI and neglecting students' academic interests.

ABVP's Continued Protest

ABVP Delhi state secretary Sarthak Sharma expressed disappointment over institutions meant to protect students' futures allegedly destroying their dreams. "Why was the DUSU President given special privilege while hundreds were denied the same?" Sharma questioned. He asserted that ABVP would continue their protests until the issue is resolved. "ABVP will fight against this injustice till the last breath," he stated.

The unfolding events at Delhi University's Law Faculty highlight ongoing tensions between student groups and administration over perceived biases and fairness in academic processes. The provisional allowance for affected students to sit for exams may provide temporary relief but underscores deeper issues needing resolution.
