Student Receives Seven-Year Sentence for Using Fake Scheduled Caste Certificate for Medical College Admission
A student has been sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs 11,000 by a local court for using a fake Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate to secure admission in an MBBS programme at Motilal Nehru Medical College, Prayagraj. Amit Kumar Bind, from Ibrahim Pur village in Gopiganj, initially enrolled in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya with an OBC certificate.

On March 23, 2010, Bind allegedly obtained a forged certificate claiming he belonged to the Khatik caste, which is classified under the SC category. This fraudulent document was used to gain admission to the MBBS programme in 2018 under the SC quota, according to Superintendent of Police Meenakshi Katyan.
Complaint and Investigation
The issue surfaced when Vijay Bahadur alias Vishram, also from Gopiganj, lodged a complaint on June 7, 2018. Following this, an investigation was conducted, leading to a case being registered against Bind. A chargesheet was subsequently submitted to the court.
After the First Information Report (FIR) was filed, Bind's admission was revoked by the medical college, resulting in his expulsion. Special Public Prosecutor Ramesh Chandra stated that the case was heard by Chief Judicial Magistrate Sabiha Khatoon.
Court Proceedings and Verdict
During the trial, arguments from both sides were presented. The court found Bind guilty of the charges. "After hearing arguments from both sides, the court found Bind guilty, sentencing him to seven years in prison and ordering him to pay a fine of Rs 11,000," said Chandra.
The verdict highlights the legal consequences of using fraudulent means for educational benefits. It underscores the importance of integrity and honesty in academic pursuits.
