Statue of Mary desecrated in TN church

Udhagamandalam, Aug 26: A statue of Mary was today found desecrated at St Mary's Church in Gudalur here today, police said. Miscreants had tarnished the face of the statue with slush and blackened other parts.

Some flower pots were also found damaged in the premises of the church.

Forensic and finger print experts had been requisitioned and investigations were on to nab the miscreants involved in the incident, which came to light when the church was opened in the morning for prayers, police said.

Tension prevailed in the town, about 80 km from here, in the wake of the desecration.
