Fake Drug Factory Raided, Millions Seized in Kotdwar

Kotdwar, February 29: In a significant development, a team of Telangana Police, accompanied by Hyderabad's Drugs Inspector Kiran Kumar Jannu, conducted a raid in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, and seized a substantial consignment of spurious drugs worth approximately Rs 43 lakh. The operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals, including the owner of the manufacturing facility.

Raid on Pharma Company

The Telangana Police, in collaboration with the local police and Crime Intelligence Unit, raided a pharmaceutical company named Nectar Herbs and Drugs located in Sidcul, Kotdwar. The raid commenced on Wednesday night and continued until Thursday, yielding substantial evidence that led to the arrests.

Arrests and Seizure

As a result of the raid, two individuals were apprehended on Thursday evening. The arrested individuals have been identified as Vishad Kumar, the factory owner from Chandpur, Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, and Sachin Kumar, a factory worker from Mohanpura Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Along with their arrest, a significant cache of counterfeit drugs worth around Rs 43 lakh was confiscated.

Transit Remand and Investigation

The process of obtaining transit remand for the accused is currently underway. Investigations have revealed that the factory was engaged in the illicit production of fake medicines using the name of a multinational company. These counterfeit drugs were then distributed and sold in the market.

Previous Involvement

Notably, the name of this particular company had surfaced during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. The company was allegedly involved in the manufacturing and sale of counterfeit Remdesivir injections, a crucial drug used in the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The seizure of spurious drugs worth Rs 43 lakh and the arrest of two individuals involved in their production and distribution highlight the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the menace of counterfeit medicines.
