SP, BJP members clash over Dimple Yadav 'English' speech in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, August 8: Samajwadi Party MP from Kannauj and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav's wife, Dimple Yadav on Thursday made her maiden speech in the 16th Lok Sabha session in English language.

But Dimple faced ire of the BJP members for speaking in English as well as over rising crime against women in Uttar Pradesh.

Dimple was speaking during a debate on the issue of atrocities against women and children and to bring strong legislations. She also cited examples of other states like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra where crime rate has increased.

Dimple also said that the UP government has started a helpline for women. She was interrupted by the BJP leader Anurag Thakur, who said that the helpline was not functional.

One of the female BJP members counter questioned Dimple over the crime rate in UP, when she was talking about other states.

Many BJP members argued that Dimple should speak in Hindi as her father-in-law and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is a staunch Hindi supporter.

The issue led to scuffle between the BJP and SP members.

Her brother-in-law Dharmendra Yadav, who was sitting next to her, quickly came to her rescue when she was targeted by the BJP members.
