Southern Railway Enhances Services to Manage Deepavali Travel Rush with Special Trains and Safety Measures

In preparation for the Deepavali festival, Southern Railway has introduced 85 special trains and additional services to accommodate increased passenger traffic. Enhanced safety measures and facilities have been implemented at major stations to ensure a smooth travel experience.

In anticipation of increased travel during the Deepavali festival, Southern Railway has implemented additional train services and enhanced safety measures at key stations. A senior official confirmed these efforts on Tuesday, highlighting the steps taken to accommodate the surge in passengers.

Shailendra Singh, Divisional Railway Manager of the Chennai Division, stated that 85 special trains will operate 435 trips across 20 sectors to manage the holiday rush. Additionally, 176 extra train services with more stoppages at important stations have been introduced.

Enhanced Passenger Facilities

To assist passengers waiting at major stations, temporary holding areas have been set up. These areas are equipped with seating, drinking water, and toilet facilities. This initiative aims to provide comfort to those waiting for their trains.

Dedicated help desks and information counters have been established to guide passengers. In Chennai Central, Egmore, and Tambaram stations, 11 counters have been set up to handle the increased number of travelers.

Security Measures and Safety Enhancements

Approximately 300 security personnel have been deployed to manage boarding for reserved passengers. The Railway Protection Force, Government Railway Police, and Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTE) are stationed at critical locations to ensure passenger safety.

Enhanced surveillance through CCTV cameras and regular patrolling has been implemented at all major stations. These measures aim to maintain a secure environment for all travelers during the festive period.

Special Services for Returning Passengers

For those returning to Chennai after celebrating Deepavali, six suburban special trains will run on October 22 between Tambaram and Kattankulathur. These services will connect travelers arriving from the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus.

Women facilitation areas have also been strengthened to ensure safety and assistance for female passengers. These improvements reflect Southern Railway's commitment to providing a safe and comfortable travel experience during this busy time.
