Sonakshi Sinha's Marriage Labelled 'Love Jihad': Shatrughan Sinha Reacts

As a section of people criticised Sonakshi Sinha's interfaith marriage to Zaheer Iqbal and went to the extent of holding a protest, her father and actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha defended his daughter saying she has not done anything "illegal", TimesNow reported.

A section of netizens have come down heavily on Sonakshi, a Hindu, marrying Muslim man Zaheer Iqbal. However, he put all the speculations to rest by attending the wedding while his sons Luv Sinha and Kush Sinha skipped it.

Sonakshi Sinha s Marriage Labelled Love Jihad Shatrughan Sinha Reacts

On Monday, a protest against Sonakshi's marriage took place in his hometown of Patna. A right-wing group named Hindu Shiv Bhawan Sena erected a hoarding in Patna denouncing her marriage as "love jihad" and cautioning Shatrughan Sinha against endorsing the union.

The group suggested that if he did support it, he should consider changing his sons' names from Luv and Kush. Alsothe group advised Sonakshi not to visit Patna. It's worth mentioning that she hasn't visited the city since childhood, the report noted.

"Sonakshi and Zaheer's wedding promotes love jihad. The wedding is a religious conspiracy under the garb of love. It aims to cause damage to the Hindu culture," the message in the hoarding read. It further added: "Hindu Shivbhavani Sena won't let Sonakshi Sinha enter Bihar!"

Responding to the development, he said, "Anand Bakshi Saab has written about such professional protesters Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna. To this, I would like to add, Kehna wale agar bekaar bina kaam-kaaj ke hon toh kehn hi kaam ban jata hai. My daughter has done nothing illegal or unconstitutional. A marriage is a very personal decision between two people. No one has the right to interfere or comment. To all the protestors I say, 'Go get a life. Do something useful with your life.' Bas, aur kuch nahin kehna."

However, her brother Luv Sinha has not offered any reason why he did not attend the marriage. He told the media: "I'm out of Mumbai at the moment, and if it's regarding the news published, I have no comment or involvement in the matter".

On the other hand, a close source to HT confirmed: "Sonakshi's parents attended the wedding, and were naturally elated about the day. However, her brothers didn't come to the wedding as well as the reception. The photographers didn't spot the two entering the venue, till the very end. And everyone found it to be really weird"
