SM Khan, Esteemed Former Indian Officer And Press Secretary To A P J Abdul Kalam, Dies At 67

SM Khan, a former Indian Information Services officer and Press Secretary to ex-President A P J Abdul Kalam, passed away at 67 in New Delhi. He died on Sunday at a private hospital in Saket. His burial is scheduled for Monday afternoon at his family graveyard in Khurja, Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh.

Born on June 15, 1957, in Khurja, Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, Khan hailed from a family of lawyers. He pursued his LLB and LLM from Aligarh Muslim University, where he was awarded the Chancellor's Gold Medal. Later, he attended the University of Wales for a degree in Economics.

Khan served as the CBI spokesperson from 1989 to 2002. During this time, he became the agency's public face while it dealt with numerous high-profile cases. After his tenure with President Kalam ended in 2007, Khan took on the role of Director General (News) at Doordarshan.

In addition to his role as Press Secretary to President Kalam from 2002 to 2007, Khan authored "The People's President," detailing his experiences working with Dr Kalam. His career also included serving as Director of Jamia Hamdard Residential Coaching Academy.

Academic and Professional Affiliations

Khan was actively involved with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He was a member of the AMU Court and was appointed by the President of India as his nominee on the Executive Council of AMU. His contributions extended beyond academia into cultural spheres.

He held significant positions such as vice president and trustee at the India Islamic and Cultural Centre in Delhi. These roles underscored his commitment to cultural and educational development within India.
