Delhi Police, collaborating with Tamil Nadu Police, detained six Bangladeshi nationals in Tiruppur for allegedly supporting a Pakistan-backed terrorist outfit via social media; the suspects had forged identity documents and were working at a textile firm. Authorities seized eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards, and are investigating potential links to foreign intelligence networks and a previous deportation case.

Authorities say the case emerged while officers were examining online extremist content and digital footprints connected to anti-terror investigations.

Social media posts triggered investigation

According to officials, the Delhi Police Q Cell came across posts praising a Pakistan-backed terrorist organisation on social media platforms. A digital trail led investigators to Tiruppur, a major textile manufacturing hub.

A special team travelled to the district and launched a joint inquiry with local police. After collecting human and technical intelligence, officers traced the suspects to Uthukuli, Palladam and Thirumuruganpoondi areas.

Two suspects were arrested in Uthukuli, three in Palladam and one in Thirumuruganpoondi.

An officer involved in the probe said, "the accused admitted that they were Bangladeshi nationals and had been working at a textile firm in Tiruppur and had been posting comments on social media in support of a terrorist organization in Pakistan."

Fake documents and communication devices seized

Investigators revealed the suspects allegedly entered India illegally and later obtained forged identity papers. Officials said the group secured fake Aadhaar cards and other documentation after finding work at a textile factory.

Police seized eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards during the operation. The devices are now being analysed to identify possible handlers and wider networks.

The accused have been moved to an undisclosed location for further questioning, and agencies are probing suspected links to foreign intelligence networks, including Pakistan's ISI and contacts in Bangladesh.

Previous deportation case linked to probe

The arrests come days after Delhi Police detained another Bangladeshi national in a separate case. The individual, identified as Mahdi Ahmed Reza Hasan, had been accused of killing a Hindu police officer and was later deported by immigration authorities.

Security agencies believe both investigations may help uncover cross-border infiltration patterns and the use of forged identity documents by foreign operatives working inside India.
