'Sir Tan Se Juda' : FIR Against Mahua Moitra Over Controversial Remark On Amit Shah

A complaint was lodged against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in Chhattisgarh due to her controversial statement about Union Home Minister Amit Shah. She allegedly remarked that Shah's "head should be cut off and put on the table." This led to a case being registered at Mana Camp Police Station in Raipur.

The complaint was filed by Gopal Samanto, a local resident, who claimed that Moitra's words insulted democratic institutions and threatened national unity. He expressed his disappointment, stating that such language against a senior constitutional figure could embolden disruptive elements.

Political Tensions Rise

Moitra's comments have sparked significant political tension. The BJP condemned her remarks, describing them as reflective of a "Talibani mindset." BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the Trinamool of normalising violent political rhetoric, likening her words to "ISIS-style rhetoric."

The infiltration issue has been a contentious topic between the BJP and the Trinamool. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have previously accused Mamata Banerjee's government of ignoring illegal migration from Bangladesh for electoral benefits. This concern was even highlighted during Modi's Independence Day speech.

Legal Proceedings Initiated

The case against Moitra was filed under Sections 196 and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These sections address promoting enmity, disturbing social harmony, and making imputations against constitutional authorities. A separate complaint was also lodged against her in West Bengal.

Samanto, who belongs to the same community as Moitra, stated, "I filed the complaint with a very heavy heart. It is an insult to the entire community when she talks so embarrassingly wrong about the home minister. The purpose of this complaint is to ensure that she gets punished and her Parliament membership is revoked."

Implications for Upcoming Elections

Moitra's remarks come at a crucial time as border security remains a hot-button issue ahead of the 2026 Assembly election. She criticised Amit Shah for failing to prevent illegal Bangladeshi infiltration into India, emphasising that border security is the Home Ministry's responsibility.
