Siddaramaiah Considers Legal Action Against Maharashtra BJP Over False Claims on Guarantee Schemes

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced plans to pursue legal action against the BJP's Maharashtra unit. He accused them of spreading false information about the five guarantees his government has implemented. During a press conference in Mangalwedha, Maharashtra, Siddaramaiah stated, "They BJP have given a false advertisement in order to mislead the people of Maharashtra."

Siddaramaiah Warns Maharashtra BJP of Legal Action

The Chief Minister highlighted that all five guarantees are operational in Karnataka, benefiting millions. These guarantees include Gruha Jyoti, which provides up to 200 units of free electricity for households, and Gruha Lakshmi, offering Rs 2,000 to women heads of BPL families. The Shakti scheme allows women to travel by bus without fare, while Yuva Nidhi provides Rs 3,000 and Rs 1,500 to unemployed graduates and diploma holders respectively. The Anna Bhagya scheme ensures food security for BPL families.

Tax Collection Disparities

Siddaramaiah criticised the BJP-led central government for unfair tax distribution among states. He pointed out that Karnataka contributes over Rs 4.5 lakh crore annually in central taxes but receives only Rs 60,000 crore in return. Similarly, Maharashtra pays Rs 8.78 lakh crore but gets back just Rs 1.30 lakh crore. This disparity highlights what he termed as 'injustice' towards both states.

The Chief Minister urged Maharashtra leaders to visit Karnataka to verify the implementation of these schemes firsthand. He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously claimed that such guarantees could lead to state bankruptcy if implemented. Despite this, the BJP has introduced similar guarantees in Jharkhand and Maharashtra.

Political Campaigning

Siddaramaiah, along with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and other Karnataka ministers, is actively campaigning in Maharashtra for upcoming elections. They are informing people about the successful implementation of these guarantees in Karnataka.

According to Siddaramaiah's data, Maharashtra receives approximately 15 paise per rupee paid in taxes, while Karnataka gets about 13 to 14 paise per rupee. This comparison underscores the perceived inequity in tax revenue distribution by the central government.

The Chief Minister's statements reflect ongoing tensions between state governments and the central administration regarding fiscal policies and political strategies.
