Bihar Shootout: Former MLA Anant Singh Escapes Unhurt Amidst Gunfire
Former Bihar MLA Anant Singh was unharmed after a gunfight between two groups in Patna, according to police reports. Patna's Senior Superintendent of Police, Avkash Kumar, confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident. The shootout occurred in Nauranga village, located on the outskirts of Patna district, with 12 to 15 rounds reportedly fired. Authorities are currently investigating the situation.

Upon receiving a report about the shooting in Nauranga village, a police team arrived at the scene and found three spent cartridges. Barh Assistant Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Kumar, stated that there are conflicting accounts from the area regarding the incident. "Conflicting versions are coming from the area. We are investigating these," he said.
Police Investigation and Community Claims
Some villagers alleged that shots were initially fired by supporters of the former MLA on his instructions. Others claimed it was an exchange of fire between two groups. The Barh ASP confirmed that no one, including Singh, was injured. He dismissed the possibility of a gang war, stating that one side fired back only in retaliation.
A case is being filed based on a complaint from a family who claimed their house was targeted during the shooting. Commenting on the incident, Singh explained that poor villagers from Nauranga approached him, alleging they were evicted and their homes locked by influential individuals.
Anant Singh's Statement and Background
Singh recounted visiting the village to help unlock homes and confront those responsible for locking them. "When my men reached the home of Sonu-Monu villagers, they were attacked. Supporters of Sonu-Monu started firing….and my men also retaliated," he said. One supporter was injured and is recovering in hospital.
Singh criticised local police for not acting on complaints from impoverished villagers. Known as "chhote sarkar," Singh is a gangster-turned-politician whose wife switched allegiance from RJD to JDU under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He represented Mokama assembly seat multiple times.
Legal Troubles and Acquittal
The former legislator faced disqualification after being convicted in June 2020 for illegal possession of an AK-47 rifle and other arms found at his ancestral home in 2018. However, in August 2024, Patna High Court acquitted him of these charges and ordered his release from jail.
Senior officials have arrived at the scene to further investigate the matter. The police continue to gather evidence and testimonies to determine the exact sequence of events leading to this confrontation.
