Sheena Bora murder: Revealed! Indrani acquired British nationality to escape punishment in India

Mumbai, Sep 11: It seems Indrani Mukerjea had apprehended that trouble would knock at her door steps in connection with Sheena Bora murder case, thus she had reportedly surrendered her Indian passport and acquired British nationality sometime around 2012-2013.

As per a DNA report, "Legal experts speculate that Mukerjea perhaps had acquired British nationality hoping to flee the country in case of any trouble. Had she moved to Britain - she indeed did spend a lot of time there in last three years - Indian government would have required to seek her extradition, which could have been a tedious process."

Indrani acquired British citizenship

However, with the murder case remaining buried for three years, a relieved Mukerjea was comfortably living in India, sources said.

Her citizenship is of no relevance, since she has already been caught and sent to jail.

Majeed Memon, senior criminal lawyer, was quoted by the website as saying, "In the current scenario it does not affect in any way, as any person, belonging to any country, can be charged under the law of the land for the crime committed. Moreover, in this case, the crime has taken place in Indian jurisdiction. Even if the offender is a foreign national by birth, police have every right to take legal action against the person."

Following her arrest in Mumbai, it came to light that Indrani had spent more time in UK than in India, after April 24, 2012, the day Indrani along with Shyam Rai and Sanjeev Khanna had allegedly killed Sheena.

As per latest reports, Indrani had even sent threatening mails to her daugther Sheena Bora.

The investigating team came across this news when they were scrutinizing Indrani's laptop in connection with the case. INX co founder Indrani had sent series of hate mails to Sheena and her brother Mikhail from her gmail account.
