Shashi Tharoor Slams Pakistan’s Ceasefire Breach With Shayari: 'Uski Fitrat Hai Mukar Jaane Ki...'
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday took a poetic swipe at Pakistan just hours after Islamabad breached a ceasefire it had agreed with India to halt all hostilities.
Posting on X, Tharoor shared a Hindi couplet that read: "Uski fitrat hai mukar jaane ki, uske vaade pe yakeen kaise karu" - which translates to, "It is in their nature to go back on their word, how can I trust their promises?"

Earlier in the day, responding to the ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, Tharoor remarked that India's aim was solely to send a strong message to terrorists following the Pahalgam terror attack.
"Peace is essential. I am very glad that India never sought a prolonged conflict. India's intention was to teach the terrorists a lesson - and I believe that lesson has now been delivered. We await further developments," news agency ANI quoted Tharoor as saying.
India-Pakistan Ceasefire Agreement
India and Pakistan on Saturday agreed to an immediate cessation of all hostilities by land, air, and sea, following four days of intense cross-border missile and drone attacks.
In a surprising turn, the ceasefire was first announced by US President Donald Trump on social media, and was later formally confirmed by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
"After a long night of US-mediated negotiations, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE," Trump posted on Truth Social.
"Congratulations to both countries for applying Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" he added.
However, within hours of the announcement, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a spate of drone sightings during the night, accompanied by explosions, which prompted Indian security forces to activate air defence systems.
At a late-night press briefing at 11pm, Misri confirmed that Pakistan had violated the ceasefire agreement that evening and stated that Indian armed forces had responded appropriately and effectively.
He also urged Islamabad to take "appropriate steps" to address the violations and handle the situation with "seriousness and responsibility".
"For the last few hours, there have been repeated breaches of the understanding reached earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan," he said. "This represents a clear violation of today's agreement."
Misri added: "The armed forces are issuing a measured yet robust response to these violations, and we view these developments with the utmost seriousness."
