Several Wagons Derail After 2 Goods Train Collide In West Bengal's Bankura

At least 12 wagons of two goods trains were derailed following a collision between the two locomotives near West Bengal's Bankura on Sunday. The incident took place at around 4 am at Onda station, as one of the goods trains hit the other from behind.

Following the incident, rail operations on Kharagpur-Bankura-Adra line have been halted, reported ANI.

"As of preliminary information, one of the goods trains was standing when it got hit by the other goods train. More details will be revealed after a detailed inquiry," Safety Officer Dibakar Majhi said.

"A goods train was standing in the loop line and another train was supposed to stop at the signal, but it overshot the red signal, leading to derailment. Restoration work was completed around 7.30am and the first train has been moved from the site at around 8.30am. As of now, 11 trains have been cancelled," said Aditya Kumar Chaudhary, CPRO South Eastern Railway.

"Both were empty goods trains and the reason for the accident and how both trains collided is still not clear. The train services in the Adra division have been affected by this accident. ADRA Division serves four districts of West Bengal viz. West Midnapore, Bankura, Purulia and Burdwan and three districts of Jharkhand viz Dhanbad, Bokaro and Singhbhum and it comes under the south-eastern Railway," railway officials were quoted as saying by India Today.

The incident came nearly a month after the deadly triple train tragedy on June 2, involving the Coromandel Express in Odisha which claimed the lives of over 290 people.
