Seven Indians Injured in Deadly Car-Ramming Attack at German Christmas Market
A car-ramming incident in Magdeburg, Germany, has left seven Indians injured. The Indian embassy in Berlin is actively assisting them, according to official sources. The attack occurred on Friday evening at a Christmas market, resulting in at least five fatalities, including a nine-year-old, and nearly 200 injuries.

Three of the injured Indians have been released from the hospital, as per Indian government sources. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) condemned the attack and confirmed that the Indian mission in Germany is in contact with the affected individuals. The MEA did not specify the exact number of injured Indians.
Indian Embassy's Response
The Indian embassy in Berlin stated on X that it is closely coordinating with the injured Indians. "We condemn the horrific and senseless attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany," said the MEA. "Several precious lives have been lost and many have been injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims."
The embassy is providing all possible assistance to those affected and their families. "Our Mission is in contact with Indians who are injured, as well as their families, and rendering all possible assistance," added the MEA.
Details of the Attack
Local authorities reported that a 50-year-old man drove his car into the crowd. He has been arrested following the incident. The suspect is originally from Saudi Arabia and has resided in Germany since 2006.
Senior prosecutor Horst Walter Nopens mentioned that while the motive remains unclear, dissatisfaction with Germany's treatment of Saudi refugees might have influenced his actions, according to Deutsche Welle.
Official Visits
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Interior Minister Nancy Faeser visited Magdeburg on Saturday to assess the situation. Their visit underscores the gravity of this tragic event and highlights ongoing efforts to support those affected.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and prompted discussions on security measures at public events. Authorities continue to investigate to understand more about the suspect's motivations and prevent future occurrences.
