Second-year IIT Madras student dies by suicide, another rescued: Police
A second-year student from Maharashtra was found dead in the hostel of the Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras.
Chennai, Feb 14: A post graduate engineering student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras was found dead in his hostel room at the college campus in Tharamani on Tuesday. The police have registered a case and are currently investigating into the matter.
According to reports, the deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Srivan Sunny from Maharashtra, who was pursuing M.S. In electrical engineering at IIT (M). A suicide note has also been recovered from the deceased.

The incident came to light when another student, who noticed his conspicuous absence, informed the hostel warden. When the door of the room where the deceased was staying was opened, the student was found hanging from the ceiling, said police.
News agency ANI cited its sources and mentioned that the student committed suicide due to stress. Kotturpuram police said,''Tamil Nadu | A second-year student from Maharashtra hanged himself in the hostel of IIT Madras. Sources say that the suicide happened due to stress. Kotturpuram police are investigating the case.''

A senior police official said family problems could have driven the student to the extreme measure. The Kotturpuram police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
In another incident, another student of the institute, hailing from Karnataka, also made a bid on his life by consuming some tablets. He has been rushed to hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old student died by suicide at IIT Bombay. The student died by jumping from the seventh floor of his hostel building at the institute's campus in Powai. However, the student did not leave any suicide notes. The student was identified as Darshan Solanki, a BTech student, from Ahmedabad.
