School Holidays To Be Extend In This State? Read Details Here

Parents and students in Punjab are anxious about school reopening amid the ongoing cold wave. The state had extended winter holidays until January 8 due to severe weather. However, temperatures remain low, raising concerns about whether schools will resume as planned.

Initially, Punjab's winter break was set from December 24 to December 31, with schools reopening on January 1, 2025. Due to persistent cold conditions, the government extended the break for student safety. Now, many are questioning if another extension is on the horizon.

Punjab Faces School Reopening Concerns

Plea for Extended Holidays

On social media platforms, parents and students have been urging authorities to prolong the winter vacation. They cite ongoing cold and foggy conditions in parts of Punjab as reasons for their request. Despite these appeals, there has been no official announcement regarding any further extension.

The meteorological department reports that Punjab and Haryana continue to experience harsh weather. Gurdaspur recorded a minimum temperature of 5°C, while Amritsar saw a low of 6.5°C, which is two degrees below normal.

Weather Conditions Across Punjab

Other cities in Punjab also faced chilly temperatures: Faridkot at 6.9°C, Bathinda at 8°C, Ludhiana at 10.2°C, Patiala at 10.4°C, and Pathankot at 10.7°C. Chandigarh, serving as the capital for both states, recorded a low of 11.6°C.

According to previous directives, schools were scheduled to reopen on January 8 at regular times. However, given the current weather situation and safety concerns for students, there's speculation that the government might reconsider this decision.

The meteorological department has issued rain alerts across various regions in India due to ongoing cold conditions. This has prompted several states to extend school holidays for safety reasons.

As of now, there is no confirmation from officials about extending holidays further in Punjab.
