SC Issues Notice To NTA And Centre Over NEET Negligence - Everything You Need To Know
The Supreme Court has issued notices to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Central government regarding allegations surrounding the conduct of the NEET-UG 2024 exam, which include accusations of paper leaks and malpractices.
This development has sparked protests among medical aspirants and their parents, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

SC Issues Notice To NTA And Centre
The Supreme Court, in its observations, emphasized the need for stringent action against even the slightest negligence, stating that every instance, no matter how minor (even 0.001% negligence), must be thoroughly addressed.
This stance reflects the court's commitment to ensuring fairness and integrity in the highly competitive NEET examination process, which plays a pivotal role in determining admissions to medical and allied educational courses across India.
NEET-UG, conducted annually by the NTA, is renowned for its rigorous standards and importance in the academic lives of millions of aspiring doctors and healthcare professionals. The court acknowledged the immense effort and dedication put forth by students in preparing for this challenging exam and expressed concern over any potential compromises in its conduct.
Justice Vikram Nath, addressing the NTA, emphasized the court's expectation of prompt and effective measures to address the issues raised, highlighting the urgency and seriousness with which the matter needs to be handled. The petitions related to these issues are scheduled to be heard on July 8, indicating a proactive approach by the Supreme Court in addressing the grievances and ensuring accountability.
Earlier controversies surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 exam, including the awarding of grace marks to certain candidates and subsequent cancellations and retests, have intensified public scrutiny and political discourse. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan assured strict action against any NTA officials found guilty of irregularities, reiterating the government's commitment to upholding the credibility of the examination process.
In response to concerns raised by 20 medical aspirants seeking a thorough investigation into alleged irregularities, the Supreme Court has been urged to consider scrapping the 2024 entrance test and initiating a court-monitored probe by independent agencies like the CBI. The petition highlighted statistical anomalies in score distributions and called for comprehensive scrutiny to ensure justice for deserving candidates affected by systemic failures in exam administration.
Overall, the Supreme Court's proactive stance and scrutiny underscore its role in safeguarding the interests of students and maintaining the integrity of educational assessments like NEET-UG, pivotal for shaping the future of medical education in India.
