SC dismisses Dinakaran's appeal in FERA case, warns him of penalty

Charges against Dinakaran in a FERA case were framed in April this year

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected TTV Dinakaran's appeal against a Madras High Court order to face trial in a Foreign Exchange Regulation Act case. The court lambasted Dinakaran for attempting to delay the case and warned of heavy costs.

The Supreme Court pulled up TTV Dinakaran for attempting to delay the trial in the forex violation case. The court, while upholding the Madras High Court's order that trial will conclude in three months, warned Dinakaran that any attempts to delay the same will lead to a penalty.

The Madras High Court in July had vacated the stay it had ordered on proceedings against Dinakaran in a FERA case filed by the Enforcement Directorate. The High court had directed a special court to complete the trial in three months while setting aside the charges that were framed in April earlier this year. A lower court was asked to re-do the process after granting adequate time to the accused, TTV Dinakaran, to submit his objections and to complete the trial within three months.

Dinakaran's advocates had appealed against the order in the Supreme Court but the same was rejected on Monday.
