Sasikala Natarajan gets 5-day parole to visit ailing husband

Sasikala's parole conditions

  • The emergency parole is from October 7 to October 11
  • Sasikala's movement restricted only to the hospital where her husband is admitted and the residence where she will stay as per the submitted documents
  • She is not supposed to entertain any visitors either at her residence or at the hospital
  • She is not supposed to take part in political or any other public activity
  • Sasikala is not allowed to interact with media persons
  • Convicted in a disproportionate assets case, Sasikala has been lodged at the Bengaluru central jail since February this year. An application for parole had been filed on the grounds of her husband, Natarajan's failing health.

Sasikala accompanied by TTV Dinakaran, who arrived at the Parappana Agrahara jail this morning, left to Chennai on Friday afternoon. Sasikala will not stay at the Poes Garden residence of deceased J Jayalalithaa but will be taken to her kin's residence in Chennai. Questions were raised on alleged VVIP treatment meted out to Sasikala Natarajan in the Bengaluru central jail after the then DIG prisons D Roopa filed submitted a report. The DIG had made scathing allegations against the jail authorities for accepting bribes to accord special treatment to Sasikala Natarajan. CCTV footages that emerged from the jail showing Sasikala walking in and out of jail only strengthened the allegations. The Karnataka government ordered a probe into the allegations but the report on the same is yet to be submitted.

Natarajan, Sasikala's husband, underwent an organ transplant earlier this week in Chennai. The procedure is under scrutiny with the BJP making an accusation of rules being flouted to facilitate organ donation to favor Natarajan. Despite not being eligible for parole, Sasikala was granted a five-day parole on humanitarian basis.
