OPS favourite child of TN, says senior AIADMK leader Ponnaiyan

Security has been tightened around Raj Bhavan as police feel there would be protests and dharnas.

Chennai, Feb 11: The Tamil Nadu political crisis is turning into a pot boiler. Sasikala Natrajan held a meeting with the AIADMK MLAs at the resort before the leaving the venue. Earlier as Sasikala made her entry into the Golden Bay resort, several AIADMK MLAs chanted slogans in her favour.

Reports suggest that a new legislature party leader may be appointed. The same would be informed to the Governor. The frontrunners to the post according to sources are K S Sengottaiyan and Edapady Palanisamy. However, Sengottiyan has denied any change in leadership. He told the media at the resort that Sasikala will be the CM.

Meanwhile security has been tightened around Raj Bhavan as police feel there would be protests and dharnas. Sasikala has already written to the Governor stating that even after seven days no action has been taken. She urged the Governor to take action and save the Constitution.

Earlier Sasikala addressed party workers at her Poes Garden residence and said that they could be patient only to an extent. Beyond that, we will do what we need to do she also said.

Meanwhile in a major setback for Sasikala, senior AIADMK leader C Ponnaiyan met with O Panneerselvam and extended his support. This comes close MPs P R Sundaram and K Ashokkumar joining the OPS camp. Sundaram, who represents Namakkal constituency, and Ashokkumar, who represents Krishnagiri constituency, said all AIADMK members in Parliament, except Thambidurai, would join the OPS camp.

Ponnaiyan said that OPS is the favourite child of the Tamil people. "Only the 1.5 crore cadre of the AIADMK can elect the general secretary of the party," he also said. "No one can become the general secretary of the party by bypassing the constitution of the party," he said.

He also alleged that when Jayalalithaa was in hospital no one except Sasikala was allowed to meet her.
