In order to weed out fake licenses, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it is planning to link driving licences with Aadhaar number and a software for this covering all states on a real time basis.

Driving licences to be linked with Aadhaar, govt tells SC

A Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta was informed about it by a court-appointed committee on road safety headed by former apex court judge Justice K S Radhakrishnan, the report said.

NIC (national informatics centre) is now preparing 'Sarthi-4' under which all the licences would be linked to Aadhaar. The software which is under prepartion will cover all the states on real time basis and it will not be possible for anyone to get duplicate or fake licence anywhere in the country.

In a bid to counter corruption, the government has already made it mandatory for everyone to link the 12-digit Aadhaar number with PAN, bank accounts, mobile numbers, post office deposits and public provident fund (PPF).

Reports also suggested that the government will make linking of Aadhaar number compulsory for key managerial personnel and directors in regulatory filings under the Companies Act.

About SARATHI-4 project:

The upcoming SARATHI-4 projects, is an initiative to shift to a web-based system to issue vehicle and licence documents, will also incorporate the digilocker system. The SARATHI 4 (for licence facilities), which is already available at 10 RTOs in the city, will soon be extended to other RTOs. Applicants who use the new system can log into their digilocker and pull the documents directly from the RTO instead of having to upload it themselves.
