Saradha: CBI wants to know if Madan Mitra played a role in other ponzi scams too

Kolkata, Dec 30: The investigations being conducted into the Saradha Scam is at a very interesting juncture. The Central Bureau of Investigation which is conducting the probe will question the accused and then re-examine their statements with another batch of accused persons.

The first round of questioning and re-examination was conducted on former Transport Minister of West Bengal, Madan Mitra and Shankudeb Panda, the former general secretary of the Trinamool Congress.

Mitra was questioned at the Alipore jail in West Bengal by four officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation. The CBI team will now question Panda to cross verify whether Mitra was speaking the truth.

Mitra's questioning:

The CBI is seeking more information on the financial transactions allegedly made between Mitra and the Saradha group.

However, the CBI which approached Mitra with a three page questionnaire also sought to know who the other beneficiaries of the scam were. Further Mitra was also asked if he had a role to play in other ponzi scams as well.

CBI officials tell OneIndia that they have got a lot of information from Panda when he was questioned twice in the past.

Most of the questions that were shot at Mitra were prepared on the basis of the information provided by Panda. Mitra was also asked if he had any knowledge of Panda's alleged involvement in the scam.

The CBI team will now prepare another questionnaire and pose the questions to Panda. The CBI team would try and ascertain if the answers given by Mitra were correct or not.

A similar process would be conducted with the other accused in the case namely Sudipta Sen, Kunal Ghosh, Matang Sinh among others.
