Sanjay Raut Criticises Amit Shah During Meeting with Sharad Pawar Amid Opposition Coalition Concerns

Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut recently met with Nationalist Congress Party SP chief Sharad Pawar in Mumbai. This meeting occurred amidst uncertainty about the opposition MVA coalition's future, following Shiv Sena UBT's decision to contest local body elections independently in Maharashtra.

Raut and Pawar Discuss Opposition Challenges

Raut criticised Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah for his comments on Pawar and Shiv Sena UBT president Uddhav Thackeray during Shah's visit to Maharashtra. "Shah is ignoring Manipur," Raut said, referring to the ethnic violence in the north-eastern state that has resulted in over 250 deaths and thousands of homes being burned.

Political Allegations and Criticisms

Raut accused Shah of focusing on betrayal by Pawar and Thackeray while ignoring issues in Maharashtra. He alleged that 18 out of 22 BJP leaders at a Shirdi event had betrayed their parties to join the BJP. "Nearly 80 per cent of the BJP's cabinet ministers and 40 per cent of its MLAs have a history of betrayal," Raut claimed.

Raut further stated that the BJP's foundation in Maharashtra is built on betrayal, yet Shah lectures others on loyalty. He urged Shah to address issues in places like Beed and Parbhani instead of speaking about betrayal. As Union Home Minister, it is Shah's duty to address these issues, but he has chosen to ignore them, said Raut.

Meeting Focus and Future Plans

The meeting at Pawar's Silver Oak residence lasted 20 to 25 minutes. Sources indicated that discussions centred on the future of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and upcoming municipal, zilla parishad, and nagar parishad elections in Maharashtra. Raut's statement about his party contesting local polls independently raised questions about MVA unity.

When asked about the meeting with Pawar, Raut did not comment on the opposition alliance or its future. He mentioned they discussed Shah's visit to the state and his critical comments on MVA leaders. "Pawar saheb is our leader in the MVA and the INDIA bloc," Raut said.

Shah's Remarks and Historical Context

During a speech at a state BJP convention in Shirdi, Shah criticised Pawar and Thackeray. He claimed that Pawar played politics of betrayal since 1978, which ended with BJP's victory in last year's assembly polls. Shah said Maharashtra rejected dynasty politics by voting against Pawar and Thackeray.

Raut responded by saying Shah may not have been in politics when Pawar had connections with Jan Sangh. He suggested Shah should research past relations between BJP and Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray before commenting on Pawar.

Local Election Strategy

Speaking earlier, Raut stated, "We will contest independently from Nagpur to Mumbai." He emphasised that party workers must be given opportunities to strengthen the party. If workers are not given chances, the party's growth suffers. All parties should contest local elections independently and support their workers.

The MVA faced a significant setback in the last assembly elections, securing only 46 seats in the 288-member house. This outcome has prompted discussions about strategies for upcoming elections.

The recent developments highlight ongoing political tensions within Maharashtra. The focus remains on how these dynamics will influence future electoral outcomes and alliances within the state.
