Sanjay Raut Likens Modi to Aurangzeb, BJP Promises Strong Response
In a recent political rally held in Buldhana, Maharashtra, Shiv Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut made a controversial comparison between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. This statement quickly sparked a heated exchange between the Shiv Sena UBT and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Raut's remarks were aimed at highlighting what he perceives as an authoritarian approach by the Prime Minister, drawing parallels with the historical figure known for his despotic rule.

Raut, addressing the crowd in the Vidarbha region, stated, "While Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha empire, hailed from Maharashtra, Aurangzeb was born in present-day Gujarat. There is a place called Dahod in Gujarat where Modi was born; Aurangzeb was also born there. So this Aurangzebi attitude is marching towards Maharashtra from Gujarat and Delhi, and also against the Shiv Sena and our self-respect. Don't say Modi has come; say Aurangzeb has arrived. We will bury them."
The BJP was quick to respond to these allegations. BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi condemned Raut's comparison during a press conference in New Delhi. Trivedi criticized the Shiv Sena UBT for aligning themselves with figures who have historically praised Aurangzeb and disparaged Shivaji Maharaj's actions as mere looting of Surat. He emphasized that such attacks on Prime Minister Modi would only strengthen the resolve of the people to support him more fervently.
Trivedi confidently stated that the opposition's disdain towards Modi would inadvertently result in an outpouring of support for him, potentially aiding the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to secure over 400 seats in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. This exchange underscores the ongoing political rivalry and the charged atmosphere leading up to the national polls.
The incident has ignited a debate on political discourse and the use of historical figures to draw contemporary analogies. It reflects the deep-seated tensions between major political parties in India as they gear up for the upcoming electoral battle.
