Sandeshkhali: Kolkata Court Extends Sheikh Shahjahan's ED Custody Till April 13

Suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shahjahan's Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody was extended till April 13 by Kolkata's session court on Monday. According to the reports, during the course of the investigation, the ED learned that several illegal financial transactions took place in the shrimp import and export business.

The West Bengal police initially arrested Sheikh Shahjahan, and later, after the intervention of the High Court, he was handed over to the Enforcement Directorate in relation to several land-grabbing cases and for an attack on a team of ED Officials, who went to his home to arrest him.

Many women of Sandeshkhali had also leveled allegations of sexual harassment on the TMC leader, after which, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sacked him from the party and ordered to form a high-level police team to inquire the matter.

The state had also witnessed big political battle between BJP and TMC as the saffron front held the state-ruling Mamata Banerjee government responsible for alleged crimes done by TMC's heavyweight leader.

Earlier, Last week, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul slammed West Bengal CM stating Sheikh Shahjahan will definitely be punished for his actions, but "what about punishment to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee as she is equally responsible for her minister's acts.

"Criminals like Sheikh Shahjahan will be punished for sure but I would like to ask what punishment will be given to the CM who keeps motivating for these exploitations by remaining silent?" Paul asked.

Notably, the West Bengal police had arrested two of close allies of Sheikh after multiple cases of "land-grab and sexual assault" were leveled against them.
