The Special Investigation Team is closing on the similarities in the murders of Gauri Lankesh and M M Kalburgi. It has been ascertained that the same gun was used in both the murders.
The finding came after the police compare the ballistic signature on the bullets and cartridges in both cases. The findings have reported a match and the report is now being examined by the SIT which was set up by the Karnataka government to probe the case.
The SIT would now look into the similarities in both the cases. Kalburgi was shot dead at his home. Gauri was killed outside her home. There appears to be a similarity in the modus operandi, officials said.
The entire probe for now is hanging on forensics. The CCTC obtained in the Gauri Lankesh case shows the presence of one killer. While it suggests that he was wearing a white shirt, the face could not be detected since he is seen in a helmet.
It has also been found that on the day of the incident, he had conducted a reconnaissance around her house thrice.
The SIT would also now get in touch with their counterparts in Maharashtra who are probing the Govind Pansare case. The CBI which is probing the Narendra Dabholkar murder case would also be contacted by the SIT.
