Interestingly, all three poorest MPs are women. This analysis was released shortly after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman remarked on her inability to afford election contests. The average asset value for sitting MPs during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections stood at ₹20.71 crore.

Comparing Wealth Among MPs

Nakul Nath of Congress emerged as the wealthiest MP in 2019 with declared assets of ₹660 crore, which have now surpassed ₹700 crore. In contrast, Balbir Singh from AAP is among the poorest Rajya Sabha MPs with assets worth ₹3.72 lakh as per last year's ADR report.

Following Singh are BJP's Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba from Manipur with assets of ₹5.48 lakh and jailed AAP MP Sanjay Singh who declared assets worth ₹6.60 lakh.
