RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Urges Harmony and Inclusivity Amid Rising Temple-Mosque Disputes

Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, recently voiced his concerns about the re-emergence of temple-mosque disputes. He noted that some individuals, following the construction of Ayodhya's Ram Temple, seem to believe they can lead Hindus by stirring such issues. Bhagwat emphasised the need for an inclusive society and highlighted India's potential to demonstrate harmonious coexistence to the world.

Mohan Bhagwat Calls for Harmony in India

During a lecture titled "India - The Vishwaguru" at the Sahjeevan Vyakhyanmala series, Bhagwat underscored India's societal diversity. He mentioned that Christmas is celebrated at Ramakrishna Mission, illustrating India's unique ability to embrace different cultures. "Only we can do this because we are Hindus. We have been living in harmony for a long time," he stated.

Inclusive Society and Harmony

Bhagwat stressed the importance of creating a model of harmony for the world. He expressed disapproval of those who attempt to gain leadership by inciting disputes similar to those resolved with the Ram Temple's construction. "This is not acceptable," he remarked, noting that such actions undermine societal unity.

The RSS chief pointed out that the Ram Temple was built as it holds significant faith value for Hindus. He questioned the continuous emergence of new disputes and emphasised that this trend cannot persist. Without naming specific sites, he urged India to exemplify peaceful coexistence.

Historical Context and Constitutional Governance

Bhagwat reflected on historical influences, mentioning groups from outside India that brought rigid ideologies and sought to restore past dominance. He asserted that India now operates under constitutional governance where elected representatives manage the government, marking an end to hegemonic rule.

He referenced Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's era as one marked by rigidity but noted a shift with Bahadur Shah Zafar's 1857 ban on cow slaughter. Bhagwat explained how British colonial strategies exploited religious divides, leading to separatism and eventually Pakistan's formation.

Unity and Equality in Diversity

Bhagwat questioned why dominance language persists if all identify as Indians. He challenged notions of minority and majority, asserting equality among all citizens. "The tradition of this nation is all can follow their own forms of worship," he said, stressing harmony and adherence to laws as essential.

The RSS chief concluded by reiterating the importance of unity in diversity. He called for a collective effort to maintain peace and respect for all cultural practices within India's constitutional framework.
