RSS Chief Bhagwat Receives Security Upgrade To ASL Level, Similar To Amit Shah's
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has elevated the security for Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat from 'Z+' to the more comprehensive Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) level. This upgrade aligns Bhagwat's security with that of Home Minister Amit Shah.
The enhancement includes an upgrade in the protection provided by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel. Bhagwat, previously one of ten individuals covered under 'Z+' armed protection by the CISF, now falls under the ASL protocol, which extends to a total of 200 protectees.

The decision follows a new threat assessment report submitted to the MHA by the Intelligence Bureau on August 16. Previously, the ASL protocol was only applied during Bhagwat's visits to sensitive areas. The recent report identified increased risks, particularly in states led by non-BJP governments, and pointed to threats from radical Islamist groups.
In response to these threats, the MHA has classified Bhagwat as an "ASL protectee," mandating enhanced security measures. All states and Union Territories have been informed of the upgrade, which requires local agencies, including district administrations and police, to coordinate for his safety.
Under the ASL protocol, Bhagwat's travel by helicopter is restricted to specially equipped aircraft and must follow stringent protocols. The ASL measures also involve thorough anti-sabotage inspections and multi-layered security rings to ensure comprehensive protection.
