RK Nagar bypoll: OPS camp uses Jayalalithaa's 'mock coffin' to seek votes
Has the Panneerselvam camp stooped too low?
In what is being criticised as a desperate attempt, O Panneerselvam camp of the AIADMK used Jayalalithaa's mock coffin to seek votes in the R K Nagar constituency. The AIADMK Puratchi Talaivi Amma leaders took to the streets of R K Nagar with their poll symbol 'electric poll' atop a mock coffin displaying a replica of Jayalalithaa's mortal remains.
The campaign came as a shock to many even as leaders of the Panneerselvam camp sought to gain sympathy from voters. The campaign and the mock coffin was a shame on the memory of the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa whose legacy is what Panneerselvam, Deepa J and TTV Dinakaran are fighting for.
"Using a replica of Jayalalithaa's body and a dummy coffin for the sake of votes is a disgrace to her legacy," said TTV Dinakaran of the AIADMK Amma camp.
The mock coffin showed a replica of Jayalalithaa's mortal remains just as they were placed for public viewing in Rajaji hall on December 6. Panneerselvam's camp had fixed a representation of their poll symbol, the 'electric pole' on the coffin and sought votes for their candidate Madhusudhanan. While the Panneerselvam camp thought it was a novel campaign idea, it ended up being insensitive and a desperate attempt at wooing people in the memory of the deceased leader.
