RJD Raises Concerns With Election Commission Over Alleged Security Issues In Bihar Strong Room

The Rashtriya Janata Dal has expressed concerns to the Election Commission regarding security issues at a strong room in Hajipur, Bihar. Allegations include CCTV malfunctions and suspicious vehicle activity. The ECI responded by clarifying these claims and reaffirming its commitment to electoral integrity and security.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has raised concerns with the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding activities at a strong room in Hajipur, Vaishali district. The party shared CCTV footage on its official X handle, alleging that cameras from various Assembly constituencies were being turned off sequentially. Additionally, a pickup van was observed entering and exiting the premises late at night.

In a post on X, the RJD accused certain individuals of attempting to undermine democracy in Bihar. They claimed these individuals have been in the state under the guise of campaigning and criticised the media for allegedly diverting attention from vote rigging issues. The RJD expressed confidence that Biharis would resist any attempts to harm their democratic processes.

ECI's Response to Allegations

The Election Commission promptly addressed the complaint by conducting an initial investigation. In its statement, the ECI clarified that CCTV feeds from the strong room were available at two locations: the main control room and a separate viewing area for party representatives. It noted that while one display screen for Assembly segment 129 Mahanar had temporarily turned off due to auto timeout, it was quickly restored.

The ECI further explained that other displays remained unaffected and confirmed that the main control room feed for Mahanar continued without interruption. Regarding the pickup van, it was clarified that it belonged to security personnel stationed at the strong room who had brought bedding and supplies to the college campus during nighttime hours.

Security Measures and Verification

The vehicle departed within 15 minutes, with its entry duly recorded in the guard register. The ECI highlighted that strong rooms operate under a three-tier security system. Kundan Kumar, an RJD representative from Lalganj who circulated the video, verified this information during checks conducted by authorities.

The Commission dismissed the allegations as unfounded and misleading. It reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and security in electoral processes while refuting claims made by RJD about suspicious activities at the strong room.
