Retired Soldier Arrested After Allegedly Firing at Student Bus in Meerut, Injuring Three

A retired soldier has been taken into custody for allegedly firing at a mini tourist bus carrying students, resulting in injuries to one student and two others. The incident took place last Friday near the Palheda Bridge on National Highway-58 in the Pallavpuram area, according to police reports.

Retired Soldier Arrested for Firing at Bus

Police stated that Nitin Sirohi, from Saipur village in Bulandshahr and currently residing in a Pallavpuram housing society, was involved in an altercation with a food delivery executive. This confrontation began after his car collided with the delivery executive's vehicle. Students intervened upon witnessing Sirohi allegedly assaulting the delivery executive.

Altercation Escalates

During this altercation, Sirohi reportedly used his licensed .32-bore pistol to fire at the bus. The bullet grazed a student's back but did not cause serious harm. Additionally, Sirohi is accused of assaulting bystanders and damaging a tempo, as stated by SP City Ayush Vikram Singh.

The injured individuals were identified as Harshita Kataria, Anirudh Sharma, and a student named Hriday Gupta. The bus was returning from Haridwar and was transporting students from a college in Noida. Police have arrested Sirohi and confiscated his pistol, four live cartridges, one spent shell, and his car.

Legal Action Initiated

Charges have been filed against Nitin Sirohi under relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to gather more details about the events leading up to the shooting.

This incident highlights concerns over road rage and firearm misuse. It underscores the importance of addressing such issues to ensure public safety on highways and in residential areas.
