Enforcement Directorate Returns Chennai Land Worth Rs 12 Crore to Rightful Owner After Fraudulent Sale

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) announced on Monday that it has returned a plot of land in Chennai, valued at over Rs 12 crore, to its legitimate owner. This action follows the fraudulent sale of the property by land grabbers. The ED took this step under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after a criminal case was initiated based on an FIR from the central crime branch of Chennai Police.

Chennai Land Worth Rs 12 Crore Restored

A group of individuals unlawfully occupied the land in Saidapet Taluk, Chennai. They then sold it to another party using forged documents and false ownership claims. In March 2017, the ED attached the property under anti-money laundering laws. This attachment was later confirmed by the Adjudicating Authority of the PMLA.

Property Restitution and Legal Proceedings

The ED filed a chargesheet in a Chennai court regarding this case. The property's current value stands at Rs 12.73 crore. Restoring it to its rightful owner is a crucial part of the ED's mission to return proceeds of crime to those affected.

The agency emphasised its dedication to fighting financial crimes and ensuring justice for victims. "The ED is committed to combating financial crimes and ensuring justice for victims of such crimes," stated the agency.
