Rescue Dog Julie Who Sniffed Out 6-Year-Old Girl In Quake-Hit Turkey Awarded
In a heartwarming recognition of her extraordinary contributions, Julie, a six-year-old Labrador and valued member of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), has been presented with a commendation certificate for her remarkable efforts in locating and aiding the rescue of a young girl trapped beneath rubble during a devastating earthquake in Turkey.
Officials made the announcement on Saturday, highlighting Julie's invaluable role in the rescue operation.

Julie, part of the 'Operation Dost' team dispatched by the Indian NDRF, demonstrated exceptional search-and-rescue skills while assisting in the aftermath of the powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and neighboring Syria on February 6. For her exemplary performance during this mission, Julie was honored with the prestigious "Director General's Commendation Role."
The commendation specifically recognizes Julie's vital contribution in locating six-year-old Beren, who was trapped for over 70 hours under the debris of a multi-story building. Working alongside her partner Romeo, a male Labrador, Julie's diligent search efforts led to the identification of signs of life, prompting the successful rescue of Beren. The young girl was saved from the Gaziantep region of Turkey, thanks to the alertness and dedication of the canine duo.
Julie currently serves with the second unit of the NDRF based in Kolkata, India. In response to the devastating earthquakes, India swiftly launched "Operation Dost," which involved sending seven aircraft carrying rescue personnel, essential supplies, and medical equipment to aid in the earthquake relief efforts in Turkey and Syria.
Under this operation, the Indian Army established the 60 Para Field Hospital, while NDRF teams were deployed for search and rescue operations. Currently, three NDRF teams are actively engaged in the region, assisting with the recovery and relief work.
