Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Invites Mamata Banerjee to Experience Maha Kumbh Arrangements

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has invited West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to visit Prayagraj. This comes after Banerjee referred to the Maha Kumbh as "Mrityu Kumbh," criticising the Uttar Pradesh government's handling of the event. She claimed that the ongoing religious gathering had resulted in fatalities due to stampedes. The BJP has strongly opposed her remarks.

Sanatan Dharma and Spiritual Significance

Sarma expressed his gratitude for participating in the Maha Kumbh, praising the arrangements made by the Uttar Pradesh government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He stated, "Sanatan is the past, present and future of the world." He also congratulated the organisers for their efforts in managing the event. Sarma emphasised the spiritual significance of the Maha Kumbh, describing it as a divine connection between people and Mahadev.

In a social media post, Sarma shared his experience at Triveni Sangam, stating, "Words fail to describe the experience of my dip today at Triveni Sangam, which is not just a confluence of rivers. It is a convergence of faith, spirituality and heritage of crores of Santanis." He highlighted the importance of Sanatan Dharma, saying it will endure as long as the sun and moon exist.

Political Reactions and Invitations

The controversy began when Banerjee criticised the management of Maha Kumbh on Tuesday. In response, Sarma invited her to witness the arrangements firsthand and take a dip at Sangam. He said, "I would request Mamta Didi to come to Maha Kumbh, see the arrangements here and take a dip at the Sangam." This invitation aims to address her concerns about safety and management.

Meanwhile, Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, also participated in the event by taking a dip at Sangam on Friday. His presence further highlights the political significance attached to this religious gathering.

The Maha Kumbh continues to be a focal point for both religious devotion and political discourse. The event's management has become a topic of debate following Banerjee's comments. As leaders from different states engage with this issue, it underscores the cultural and spiritual importance of such gatherings in India.
