The Delhi Traffic Police have announced traffic restrictions in parts of the national capital as preparations for the Republic Day Parade continue. The restrictions came into effect on Saturday, January 17, 2026, and will remain in place on January 19, 20, and 21.

These measures have been introduced to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted movement of parade contingents during rehearsal sessions along Kartavya Path.

According to officials, the restrictions are a routine part of Republic Day arrangements and are aimed at maintaining security and easing logistical movement during rehearsals involving large groups and heavy equipment.

Timings and Areas Affected by Restrictions

As per an advisory shared by the Delhi Traffic Police on social media platform X, traffic will be regulated daily between 10:15 am and 12:30 pm on all rehearsal days. Commuters have been advised to plan their travel in advance and avoid specific routes during these hours to prevent delays and congestion.

Key stretches that will be affected include Kartavya Path at Rafi Marg Crossing, Janpath Crossing, Mansingh Road Crossing, and the C-Hexagon area. These locations are among the busiest junctions in Lutyens' Delhi and usually see heavy traffic, especially during office hours. Due to the movement of parade contingents and vehicles, traffic management in these areas will remain strict.

Advisory Issued for Commuters

The traffic police have urged motorists and pedestrians to strictly follow traffic signs and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed on the ground. Commuters are also encouraged to use alternative routes suggested by the authorities to ensure smoother travel and avoid inconvenience.

The Republic Day Parade rehearsals involve the movement of contingents from the armed forces, paramilitary units, police personnel, and cultural performers. Heavy vehicles and equipment are also part of the rehearsals, making temporary traffic restrictions necessary each year ahead of January 26.

The Delhi Traffic Police have stressed that the restrictions are temporary and essential for the successful conduct of the rehearsals. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain patient and cooperative during this period.
