Mirwaiz Seeks Release of Kashmiri Political Prisoners for Ramzan

Srinagar, March 15: Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq made an impassioned plea to the authorities on Friday, calling for the release of Kashmiri political prisoners as a gesture of goodwill during the holy month of Ramzan. Delivering the Friday sermon at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, Mirwaiz emphasized the need to listen to the collective conscience of the people and unconditionally free thousands of Kashmiri political prisoners held in jails across Jammu and Kashmir and India.

Mirwaiz expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of many prisoners, causing immense distress to their families and the community. The separatist leader also highlighted the deplorable condition of roads, making commuting a challenging and unpleasant experience. He urged the authorities to prioritize addressing these infrastructure issues to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Mirwaiz appealed to all sects and organizations, regardless of their religious, social, or political affiliations, to rise above personal and sectarian interests. He emphasized the importance of fostering unity and brotherhood among the people of Jammu and Kashmir to preserve and protect their collective identity. According to Mirwaiz, adhering to fundamental human, moral, and religious principles and values is the key to ensuring collectivism.
