After Rashmika Mandanna, Kajol, Katrina, Industrialist Tata Ratan In the Deepfake Spotlight

After Bollywood actresses Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif and Kajol, India's top industrialist Ratan Tata is the latest deep fake victim. As per multiple media reports, a deep fake video of Ratan Tata has been doing the rounds aiming to lure people into an online gaming cum betting application.

According to India Today, in the alleged video, Ratan Tata is asking people to join a Telegram channel and to bet money. The video seems to be a manipulated version of Ratan Tata's June 2015 speech when he received the Honoris Causa degree at the HEC Paris Business School.

According to India Today's fact check team, the Telegram channel named 'Aviator Ultrawin' is being run by a man named Amir Khan, who promises people guaranteed winnings.

The report alleges that the kingpin Amir lured people by saying that his followers can easily earn Rs 1 lakh every day by playing the Aviator online betting game.

Adding to concerns in this case is the fact that victims could have shared personal details like banking credentials, phone numbers and email id.

A few weeks ago, the Government made it clear that people misusing technology would be punished under the Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's spokesperson had cleared that anyone found guilty of cheating by using the technology and latest software would be sent behind the bars for up to three years and a fine of up to one lakh rupees could be imposed.
