Ayodhya Ram Temple's Roof Leaks After Monsoon's First Showers: Is The Design To Blame?

Six months after its grand inauguration, the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has faced an unexpected challenge - leakage from its roof during rainfall. This issue came to light during recent monsoon showers, raising concerns among devotees and temple officials.

In an interview with ANI, Chief Priest Acharya Satyendra Das expressed his concern about the leakage, stating that the roof of the sanctum sanctorum, where the idol of Ram Lalla is installed, started to leak during the first rain. He emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue to ensure uninterrupted prayers at the temple, especially with the possibility of intensifying rains.

Ram Temple s Roof Leaks After Monsoon s First Showers Is The Design To Blame

"It is very surprising that despite having numerous engineers on board, water is leaking from the roof," Das told PTI. "Nobody would've thought this would happen."

However, Nripendra Mishra, Chairperson of the Sri Ram Mandir Construction Committee, attributed the seepage to incomplete construction work rather than a design or construction flaw. "The Guru Mandap is exposed to the sky as the second floor is not yet complete, and once it's finished, it will cover this opening," he explained.

Mishra also pointed out that some seepage was expected due to ongoing work on the first floor and that the conduit would be closed once completed. He assured that there was no drainage issue in the sanctum sanctorum because of its measured slope for water clearance, and that water was manually absorbed.

Despite this setback, devotees continue to flock to the temple, which has become a significant cultural and religious landmark since its inauguration on January 22. The temple's construction has been a historic event in India's cultural heritage.
