Ram Temple Inauguration Declared National Festival by Rajya Sabha

The Rajya Sabha passed a resolution recognizing the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya as a national festival. Prime Minister Narendra Modis efforts in uniting the nation and the temples cultural and historical significance were emphasized.

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Friday read out a resolution on the Ram temple, describing its inauguration in Ayodhya as a day of national festival and celebrations for the entire nation. An identical resolution was earlier passed in the Lok Sabha.

Dhankhar Praises PM Modi's Role

Reading out the resolution in the Upper House after a brief discussion on the construction of the historic Shri Ram Temple, Dhankhar lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's role in uniting the nation on this auspicious occasion. He highlighted the prime minister's dedication in following the intricate rituals for the consecration of the idol of Ramlalla.

Temple Symbolizes Unity and Progress

Dhankhar described the temple as a symbol of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat (One India, Great India). He acknowledged the significant role played by society in realizing this historic moment. The temple, situated in the ancient and sacred city of Ayodhya, was hailed as a glorious achievement for India, contributing to the country's progress and holding cultural and historical importance.

Ram and Ramayana Integral to Indian Civilization

Dhankhar emphasized the integral role of Lord Ram, Mata Sita, and the epic Ramayana in Indian civilization and culture. He drew a connection between democratic values and the Constitution with the principles of governance and ethos of Ram Rajya. The temple was seen as an embodiment of people's faith and devotion.

January 22nd: A Day of National Joy

Dhankhar described January 22, 2024, as a date that filled every corner of the country with immense joy and enthusiasm. He noted the widespread discussions about the Ram temple across different cultures around the world and the outpouring of faith witnessed everywhere. The inauguration had become a national festival that would continue to captivate future generations.

Rajya Sabha Session Concludes

In his valedictory remarks at the conclusion of the 263rd session of Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar highlighted the productivity and achievements during the short but significant session. The House sat for nine days, addressing 116 issues of public importance and answering numerous questions from parliamentarians. The overall productivity stood at an impressive 137 percent.

Call for Exemplary Conduct

Dhankhar urged members of the Upper House to uphold exemplary standards of conduct. He emphasized the need for inspiration as India steadily progresses towards becoming a developed nation and a global leader. Members were encouraged to contribute vigorously to the continual rise of India.

Bills Passed and Members Bid Farewell

In addition to discussions on the Motion of Thanks on the President's address and the interim Union Budget, the House passed seven Bills, including important legislation related to public examinations, water pollution control, local bodies in Jammu and Kashmir, and amendments to the Constitution concerning Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. Dhankhar also mentioned the introduction of 22 Private Members' Bills during the session.

Recognizing the significance of the upcoming general elections, Dhankhar described the session as the last before the "true festival of democracy" in India. He acknowledged the phenomenal progress India is making in various spheres and the immense possibilities that lie ahead in the Amrit Kaal of the Republic.

The Rajya Sabha bid farewell to 68 members, including three who retired in January and 65 who will retire between February and July this year. Dhankhar expressed profound appreciation for the distinguished service rendered by each retiring colleague.

The Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die on Saturday, marking the end of the Budget session of Parliament. The session, which began on January 31, was the last before the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May.
