Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty shared her exhilaration upon her arrival in Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela, describing her feelings as excited, hopeful, and extremely happy. Over 5.33 million devotees had already participated in the holy dip by the festival's eighth day, showcasing the event's massive draw.

Murty, who was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2023 and the Padma Shri in 2006 for her social work contributions, is on a three-day visit to the religious congregation. As a notable author and the former chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, she brings a significant presence to the gathering.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, recognized as one of the largest religious gatherings globally, began on January 13 and is set to conclude on February 26. This period marks significant 'snan' (bathing) dates, including Mauni Amavasya and Basant Panchami, drawing millions to the Sangam Triveni.

Believers are compelled by the conviction that bathing here not only absolves sins but also opens the path to Heaven. So far, the event has seen an overwhelming turnout of approximately 87.9 million pilgrims by January 20, indicating the deep-rooted spiritual significance and cultural heritage associated with the Maha Kumbh.

Ensuring Safety and Security at the Maha Kumbh

To ensure the safety and security of the countless devotees attending, the Uttar Pradesh police have deployed over 10,000 personnel, encompassing local officers and paramilitary forces. Additionally, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has introduced a "water ambulance" at Sangam, aiming to provide immediate aid and ensure the well-being of attendees. This comprehensive security arrangement underlines the government's commitment to a smooth and secure festival experience for all.

In her conversation with ANI, Murty expressed her anticipation and joy for attending the Maha Kumbh, an event that occurs once every 144 years, making it a rare and spiritually significant occasion.
