Raj Thackeray Commends Modi's 'Courageous' Moves at Mumbai Event

In a significant political development, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an election rally in Mumbai, lauding the central government's achievements, including the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the nullification of Article 370. The rally, held at Shivaji Park in Dadar, saw Thackeray expressing his support for Modi's third term and outlining his expectations.

Thackeray Lauds Modi in Mumbai

Thackeray's support comes amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, where he has already extended unconditional backing to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in Maharashtra. His commendation of Modi's government for its bold decisions such as the removal of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu & Kashmir, and the prohibition of instant triple talaq, was evident during his speech.

Moreover, Thackeray has put forth specific demands from Modi's government, including granting classical language status to Marathi, incorporating Maratha history into the national school curriculum, and preserving forts from the Shivaji era. He also called for speeding up the work on the Mumbai-Goa highway.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar made a public appearance at the rally after being absent since the May 7 voting in Baramati. He criticized the opposition for neglecting development issues and affirmed that only Modi could provide strong leadership for India.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took this opportunity to criticize Shiv Sena UBT president Uddhav Thackeray for abandoning Hindu-centric rhetoric and alleged scams during the COVID-19 pandemic under Thackeray's regime. Fadnavis contrasted this with Balasaheb Thackeray's legacy of Hindu advocacy.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also took aim at Uddhav Thackeray, accusing him of rapidly changing his political stance and betraying Balasaheb Thackeray's ideals. Shinde emphasized continuing Balasaheb's ideology and rejected any association with the Congress party.

The rally underscored a unified front from BJP and its allies against their political rivals in Maharashtra. With 13 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, including six in Mumbai, set to vote on May 20 in the final phase of the elections, this show of support from MNS could influence voter sentiment.

This political alignment highlights a pivotal moment in Maharashtra's politics as parties consolidate their positions ahead of crucial electoral battles. The emphasis on development issues, national security, and cultural heritage by BJP and its allies aims to resonate with voters seeking strong leadership and governance.
