Raj Thackeray Claims Uddhav's Silence Tied to BJP's CM Post Offer in Maharashtra
In a recent campaign rally, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray made significant remarks about his cousin, Uddhav Thackeray, the chief of Shiv Sena UBT, and their political alignments with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Raj Thackeray's comments shed light on the intricate dynamics of Maharashtra's political landscape, especially concerning the BJP's relationship with its allies.

During his speech in support of Union minister Narayan Rane, the BJP candidate from the Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Lok Sabha constituency, Raj Thackeray justified his backing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He cited several reasons for his support, including the construction of the Ram Temple and the abrogation of Article 370. This marks a notable shift from his stance in 2019 when he openly criticized Modi in various rallies ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Raj Thackeray posed a rhetorical question to the audience regarding Uddhav Thackeray's criticism of the BJP. He suggested that Uddhav's grievances against the BJP stem from the party's refusal to share the Maharashtra chief minister's post as per Uddhav's proposal. This refusal led to the dissolution of a long-standing alliance between Shiv Sena and BJP after the state elections in 2019.
The MNS chief also addressed accusations from Shiv Sena UBT regarding the diversion of investments from Maharashtra. He questioned Uddhav Thackeray's role and actions during his tenure as an ally of the BJP from 2014 to 2019 and later as chief minister from 2019 to 2022. Raj Thackeray criticized Uddhav for opposing significant projects like the Jaitapur Nuclear Power plant and an oil refinery in Konkan, citing concerns over ecological damage to the coastal regions.
Furthermore, Raj highlighted inconsistencies within Shiv Sena UBT, pointing out instances where Vinayak Raut, the sitting Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg MP renominated by Shiv Sena UBT, opposed projects that were supported by local MLAs from his party. These remarks underscore the internal conflicts and differing viewpoints within Shiv Sena UBT regarding development projects in Maharashtra.
The political narrative in Maharashtra continues to evolve as leaders like Raj Thackeray articulate their positions and critique former allies. The unfolding dynamics offer a glimpse into the strategic considerations and alliances shaping the state's political future.
