Rain lashes Mumbai, local train services hit; Two people electrocuted

Pre-monsoon showers hit the Mumbai on Saturday evening disrupting flights and local train traffic in the metropolitan city. Rain and thundershower, along with gusty winds, lashed parts of Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath, Navi Mumbai, Vasai and Virar from Saturday evening onward, said reports.

Two people died due to electrocution in Mumbai's Bhandup area. They have been identified as Zara Yunus Khan and Anil Yadav, said an HT report.

The weather department's forecast was that monsoon would enter Maharashtra by June 6. Today's rain was a pre-monsoon shower. Being a coastal city, it rains really hard in Mumbai.

According to Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd spokesperson, three flights had to be diverted and flight operations were delayed for up to 40 minutes. The runway had to be briefly shut and the thunderstorm severely affected flight movements, HT report quoted airport sources as saying.
