Railways to provide some work under MGNREGA

Tasks taken under the MGNREGA by both the ministries include construction and maintenance of approach roads for level crossings; developing and cleaning silted water-ways, trenches and drains.

New Delhi, Nov 25 The government on Friday said that the Railway Ministry and the Rural Development Ministry have identified construction and maintenance works to be carried under the national employment guarantee act -- MGNREGA.

"Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Railways have already identified certain railway works, which can be undertaken under MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act)," Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gophain said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
