Railways sends Rs 4 cr bill to Latur administration for water trains

Mumbai, May 13: After earning praises from across the country, the Railways has now sent a Rs 4 crore bill to parched Latur district for providing water in the drought hit region.

Latur's collector Pandurang Pol told reporters that he received the bill ten days ago and will be sending the same to the water department.

However, SK Sood, Central Railways General Manager said: "We have sent the bill to the Latur District Collector as per the administration's request."

"It is up to the district administration whether to pay us or seek waiver of the amount, through proper channels. We sent the water transport bill as per their request," Sood added.

On the other hand, according to a report in DNA, Pol said that he was surprised to receive the bill. "You should ask the railways why they have sent the bill. We have passed it on to the higher authorities in the state government who will decide on the next course of action," he said.

Maharashtra government started sending water to the drought hit region a month back. The first water train, 'Jaldoot' carried water to Latur on Apr 11 .
