New Delhi, March 16: As the Congress is staring at a 'bleak' future, several senior leaders of the grand old party are airing their discontentment against the party's top leadership. After the newly-elected Congress MLAs from Goa protested against the party's national leadership for failing to form the government in the coastal state, senior leaders of the Congress in Delhi are continuously voicing their angst against the ills afflicting the party.

There are also reports that many in the Congress want their vice president Rahul Gandhi to resign from the top post and make way for someone who has experience in 'grassroot-level politics'. Two former union ministers from the Congress said that if Gandhi has to survive in the party he has to get rid of coterie and sycophancy--the two biggest problems the Congress suffer from.

In an interview to Indian Express, former tribal affairs and panchayati raj minister Kishore Chandra Deo said that Gandhi has to get rid of 'a dozen people' around him to 'survive'.

Former law minister Ashwani Kumar told Indian Express, "All that the Congress needs to do is to put into motion a process which will be able to throw up leadership at various levels. When you confuse sycophancy for loyalty, you don't create leaders. When intellect is at a discount, you can't make a great party."

A rebellion is brewing in the Congress after the party suffered a humiliating defeat in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand elections. Moreover, the morale of the party workers plunged to a new low after the Congress failed to form governments in Manipur and Goa even after winning the maximum seats in the assembly elections of both the states.

Two days ago, senior leaders of the Congress including Renuka Chowdhury had raised questions over the party's top leadership in handling elections and results. Even son of former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, Sandeep, had suggested change in the party leadership. On Tuesday, an angry Chowdhury called Goa loss 'stupid' and demanded sacking of Digvijaya Singh from the Congress.
