Coronation after sabatical? Rahul Gandhi could become Congress president in April

New Delhi, Feb 25: It looks like Rahul Gandhi's untimely sabbatical will not earn him ire of the party leadership. Reportedly, he would soon be rewarded with plum post in the party.

According to NDTV report, Congress vice president could be promoted to party president in the month of April. Currently, Rahul's mother Sonia Gandhi is holding the post.

Sonia Gandhi will give away the coveted post of party president which she has been holding since 1998. Report further says that she will continue to hold chairperson post of the Congress Parliamentary Party.

It is being said that the decision has been taken after Congress vice president had asked views of various party leaders on the same. In January 2013, Amethi MP was promoted to vice president at the Jaipur conclave of AICC.

2007 was the most important year for Gandhi scion when he was appointed General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee. In the same year he was also given charge of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India.

Rahul Gandhi's career has seen many downs than ups after taking party vice president's reins in his hand. Congress has been performing badly since 2013, which started from Lok Sabha polls and then subsequently continued in State assembly polls too.
